GANGgajang have been a defining presence in Australian music for four decades, blending rock, pop and distinctly Australian storytelling. Formed in the mid-1980s, the band broke through with their self-titled debut album and the enduring anthem “Sounds of Then (This is Australia),” a song that has continued to resonate across generations and become part of the country’s cultural fabric.

‍
Across albums including gangAGAIN, Lingo and Oceans and Deserts, GANGgajang built a reputation for melodic songwriting, sharp observation and a sound rooted in Australian identity. Their reach has extended well beyond home, including a major following in Brazil and strong ties to surf culture through Quiksilver’s cult film Mad Wax. Decades on, GANGgajang remain one of Australia’s most enduring and recognisable bands.
