Back to Basics Tour at Surf + Sound
Skunkhour emerged in the early 1990s with a sound that stood apart in Australian music, fusing funk, rock, rap, soul and new wave into something distinctly their own. Built around the rhythm section of brothers Dean and Michael Sutherland, Warwick Scott’s guitar, Aya Larkin’s powerful vocals and Del Larkin’s rap, the band quickly earned cult status with their 1993 self-titled debut and a reputation as one of the country’s most exciting live acts.
Albums including FEED, Chin Chin and The Go expanded their sound and cemented their place in Australian music, with tracks such as “Up to Our Necks” becoming enduring favourites. Extensive touring across Australia, Europe and the UK built a loyal following, while their adventurous approach helped open the door for a new generation of genre-blurring Australian artists. Skunkhour remain a vital and influential live band with a legacy that continues to resonate.
Off the back of a sold-out show at Sydney's Manning Bar, where they blew the thousand-strong crowd away, Skunkhour are back with an extensive run of gigs around SE Australia.
Back to Basics sees the band do what they do best, playing their killer live repertoire of renowned innovative music, fused with infectious rhythm, compelling riffage, and vocal styling like no other band in the land.
Featuring original members Aya & Del Larkin up front, Dean Sutherland on bass & Warwick Scott on guitar, the alt funk pioneers cannot be denied.
