The Beautiful Girls

The Beautiful Girls is the musical project of Australian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mat McHugh. Since emerging in the early 2000s, McHugh has built a distinctive sound blending reggae, dub, folk, hip hop, soul and punk influences, shaped by a life spent around Australia’s surf and skate culture. Early releases including Morning Sun, Goodtimes and debut album Learn Yourself quickly established The Beautiful Girls as one of Australia’s most recognisable independent acts.

Over the past two decades, The Beautiful Girls have toured extensively across Australia, Japan, Europe, Brazil, Canada and the US, while albums including We’re Already Gone, Ziggurats, Spooks and Dancehall Days have expanded McHugh’s sound and international following. Entirely independent and constantly evolving, The Beautiful Girls remain defined by warm melodies, deep grooves, honest songwriting and an enduring connection to surf, travel and coastal culture.
